Obituary

Eleven days shy of her 95th birthday, Ruby Durgan Taylor, formally of Anderson, IN, passed away peacefully at Northridge Retirement Living in Fishers on August 11th, 2019. She was doing one of her favorite things, playing cards with some of her dear friends. She was born in Anderson on August 22nd, 1924 to Charles and Elsie Durgan.

Her first marriage ended in tragedy as her husband, Jack Walker, perished aboard the USS Indianapolis during WWII. Her second marriage was to Tom Taylor, which lasted 49 years. She raised four daughters and went back to college as a grandmother to Ball State University and received her undergraduate and master's degree in Special Education. She taught 11 years of Special Education and was the first certified LD teacher in the Anderson school district. She was a lifelong, active member of 1st United Methodist Church of Anderson.

After retirement, she loved playing cards, gambling, dancing, reading, knitting, painting and most of all, spending time with family. She also loved her annual trips to Florida, the Carolina's, and Las Vegas. She also made lots of wonderful memories at Edgewood Country Club, trying to golf, socializing with friends and playing cards.

She is preceded in death by her first husband, Jack Walker, her parents, Charles and Elsie Durgan, her two sisters, Charlotte Hosier and Patti Achor, her second husband, Tom Taylor, her daughter, Cathy Ann Taylor, and her grandson, Daniel Tribbett. Left to cherish her memories and carry on her traditions are her 99-year-old sister, Norma Cardinale, her daughters, Linda (Rand) Wilburn, Terri Tribbett, Lisa (Kevin) Smith. Her grandchildren; Andrea Dickover, Kristen (Joe) Alkire, Matthew (Jessica) Tribbett, Taylor (David) Lintelman, David (Kristin) Tribbett, Alisse Wilburn, Konner, and Griffin Smith. Her great-grandchildren; Delilah Dickover, Beck, Tate, Hoyt Lintelman, Ava, Logan, Arden Alkire, Ruby, Miller, Elsie Tribbett, Graham Tribbett, many nieces and nephews, and friends and staff at Northridge.

Our family has forever been changed by losing the beloved matriarch of our family. Once we saw the Anderson water tower, we knew that love, family and where we made a lifetime of memories were just around the corner on Old Orchard.
