Obituary for David O. Carmany, Sr.

March 15, 1942 - April 13, 2021
Anderson, Indiana | Age 79

David Otis Carmany, Sr. 79, passed away Tuesday, April 13 at his residence surrounded by his loved ones.

He was born March 15, 1942, the only child of the late, Genevieve (Dillman) and William Carmany.

David was born and raised in Anderson, IN. He earned a degree from Anderson College and went on to obtain his law degree from IU School of Law. David worked hard all his life enjoying several different career interests including those as a trial lawyer and a traveling salesman with Cronatron Welding/Lawson products. Over his lifetime, he achieved many promotions and awards for his exemplary professional efforts.

David had a deep passion for music that was nurtured by his parents who helped fuel his love for big band era music & theater organs. He played several instruments and, as a hobby, produced theater organ albums that he freely distributed to family and friends. David loved sharing his talent with others. He was a co-owner of The Music Palace in Ohio, a restaurant centered around a large Wurlitzer theater organ and built an addition to his home in order to perform concerts for family and friends. His great love of music was not only passed down to his 6 children, who all played instruments & sang, but also to anyone desiring piano or organ lessons which David would provide at no cost.

David was a long-time member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, where he continued to share his musical gifts with all that met him. He was very proud of his three sons and a grandson that each chose to serve a two year mission for the church.

As much as David loved music, his love for his family was even greater. David was preceded in death by his parents, his son, David O. Carmany, Jr.; and his step-father, Charles O. Dillman. He is survived by his children, Genevieve Carmany of Anderson, Carmen Carmany of Sherwood, Arkansas, Daniel (Christine) Carmany of Belcamp, Maryland, Delilah (Heather) Carmany of Anderson, & Donald (Solange) Carmany of Mason, Ohio; daughter-in-law, Laura Carmany of Noblesville; niece Victoria (Bill) Randolph of Anderson; 13 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren.

Services will be at 11:00 am Tuesday, April 20, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 200 W. 46th St, with Paul Swartz officiating. Burial will be at Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-8 Monday at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory, with an hour prior to services on Tuesday at the church. Due to COVID mandates, guests are required to wear masks and practice social distancing.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Paramount Heritage Foundation.
